Ever since he won his first US Open in 2003, he has retained this Grand Slam five times and will be gunning for his sixth. This tournament has Roger Federer’s name all over the trophy and if there is one person that can stop him then Andy Murray is your man. These two top players met in the 2008 US Open final and no doubt Roger Federer was the winner.
Why the Swiss Master for his sixth? Because he has won a record of 15th Grand Slam title and involved in all the Grand Slam final this year. He showed continuing motivation and that was proven in the Cincinnati Open last weekend.
Andy Murray is on an aggressive mode to revenge for his lost last year. Number 2 in the world rankings and you can expect him to break serve at least once or twice in his quest to the final at the US Open. An each way bet would be ideal.
The contenders for the Roger Federer’s legacy look likely to threaten him by Rafael Nadal. The Spanish left handed player missed Wimbledon with knee problems and returned this month looking a shadow from his former self. Juan Martin del Potro lost to Murray in Montreal final last month and returns to from injury at the US Open. Novak Djokovic has found some form of the late as he reached the Cincinnati Open final last weekend losing to Federer. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga has beaten Federer in the Rogers Cup so watch out for his swings when he plays the Swiss number one at US Open. If you are looking for an outsider for the US Open then Llyeton Hewitt is your man. He is slowly climbing the rankings and he will give you some money’s worth.
Between Federer and Murray, the Brit has a better overall head to head match statistic. However, Federer tends to beat Murray in the big occasions. He has beaten the British number one in the ATP Master 1000 last weekend and that’s enough to back the world number 1 for the US Open. In that case, it will be an exciting match where loads of attacking football and defense error will be on display.
