US Open: Roger Federer times six

In Tennis, US Open on August 31, 2009 at 07:42

A repeat of the result in 2008? Roger Federer steaming hot to win his 6th US Open title.

A repeat of the result in 2008? Roger Federer steaming hot to win his 6th US Open title.

Ever since he won his first US Open in 2003, he has retained this Grand Slam five times and will be gunning for his sixth. This tournament has Roger Federer’s name all over the trophy and if there is one person that can stop him then Andy Murray is your man. These two top players met in the 2008 US Open final and no doubt Roger Federer was the winner.

Why the Swiss Master for his sixth? Because he has won a record of 15th Grand Slam title and involved in all the Grand Slam final this year. He showed continuing motivation and that was proven in the Cincinnati Open last weekend.

Andy Murray is on an aggressive mode to revenge for his lost last year. Number 2 in the world rankings and you can expect him to break serve at least once or twice in his quest to the final at the US Open. An each way bet would be ideal.

The contenders for the Roger Federer’s legacy look likely to threaten him by Rafael Nadal. The Spanish left handed player missed Wimbledon with knee problems and returned this month looking a shadow from his former self. Juan Martin del Potro lost to Murray in Montreal final last month and returns to from injury at the US Open. Novak Djokovic has found some form of the late as he reached the Cincinnati Open final last weekend losing to Federer. Jo-Wilfred Tsonga has beaten Federer in the Rogers Cup so watch out for his swings when he plays the Swiss number one at US Open. If you are looking for an outsider for the US Open then Llyeton Hewitt is your man. He is slowly climbing the rankings and he will give you some money’s worth.

Between Federer and Murray, the Brit has a better overall head to head match statistic. However, Federer tends to beat Murray in the big occasions. He has beaten the British number one in the ATP Master 1000 last weekend and that’s enough to back the world number 1 for the US Open. In that case, it will be an exciting match where loads of attacking football and defense error will be on display. Check out the odds for a Roger clean sweep with Betsson as they are offering at 2.10.

Milan vs Inter

In Football, Serie A on August 26, 2009 at 00:28

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

AC+Milan+v+FC+Inter+Milan+Serie+Coze3LTfrX5l

Already in the second round of the Serie A and we will witness one of the most anticipated italian derby in the football calendar. The first Milan derby will be played under Milan’s home ground which means that AC Milan will have more of their own fans in the stadium on Saturday night. Inter Milan, who shares the same stadium with Milan, will have their own fans allocated in the Curve Sud of Guiseppe Meazza or San Siro Stadium. The atmosphere will be intense and there will be loads of fireworks and colour on the night, hopefully the football will also be as good as it can be.

Milan will play their first game in San Siro against their neighbour and what a start it will be. Having already lost Kaka in the pre-season, Milan are undertipped to play second fiddle to Inter this season for the Scedutto. This was not the case as Coach Leonardo took away a 2-1 win at Siena in their season opener. They did not seem to miss Kaka as fellow Brazilians Ronaldinho and Pato were made key players on the night. Milan did miss one thing and it was Paulo Maldini’s authority presences at the heart of the Rosserneri defence. Milan did have veteran Alessandro Nesta back but it was not enough to aviod conceding a goal to Siena. A win has given Milan all the confidence going into the derby and it will certainly the home team running the show on the night.

Inter played their first game last weekend in the Guiseppe Meazza stadium against newly promoted Bari. The match ended in a 1-1 draw which did not suit the likes of Jose Mourinho’s taste. His team lacked the flair and the creative upfront as Eto was left alone on its own most of the time. It did look like a formation and strategy that Mourinho once used during his Chelsea days. If a repeat of this performance at the derby could prompt some issues among the Inter squad and that would be very unfortunate so early in the season. Inter will be hoping that Eto continues his goals and the defense toughen up in a game that a lot could be lost.

The Milan derby has been an important fixtures in the Serie A as the decider of the league could fall on whoever wins this type of games. Inter have been dominating this ties for a few years now and rightly so because they went on to win the Serie A. However, this time around, the tie has come a bit early than usual and Milan looks to have a bit of edge. Although, a bit of edge might not be enough to win you the derby so a cautious draw could be better of and Betsson is offering odds 2.95 for a draw.

Manchester United vs Arsenal

In Barclays Premiership League, Football on August 25, 2009 at 23:59

The first Big 4 to compete this season and both teams are looking to win at Old Trafford

The first Big 4 to compete this season and both teams are looking to win at Old Trafford

This is the tie between the Big 4 in the Premiership. This is one of the most anticipated ties of the season and Arsenal will travel to the Old Trafford to face off against Manchester United. Both teams did not have a midweek tie so they are both well rested ahead of this mouth watering tie. Last time these two met at Old Trafford, Manchester United won courtesy of an O’Shea goal in their quest to retain the title.

The reigning champion has got their winning ways back after crushing Wigan 5-0 away last weekend. They came out against Wigan all guns blazing where Wayne Rooney registered his 100th and 101st goal for Manchester United. Michael Owen also scored one as he opened his account for the Red half of the Manchester. Sir Alex Ferguson was much happier with his team as they passing and movements were more direct and lethal. He goes into the game against Arsenal a happy man and might there be some mind games between him and Arsene Wenger? The team is also happy to see the return of N. Vidic in the central defense while Rio Ferdinand will not be ready for the tie.

Many might have written off Arsenal to challenge for the title this year but with 2 games and 2 wins, they are well in it. A victory for Arsenal could spell some speculations whether Manchester United is fit to retain the Premiership for the third time. Coach Arsene Wenger must be happy with the way his team is performing, 10 goals in 2 games is an absolutely the ideal start for any team. They might have lost their front men to the transfer but they have bought well as defender Thomas Vermaelen has already scored two goals. Arsenal’s game is so pleasing to the eye, Wenger could see an upset at Old Trafford this weekend. The only concern for the Frenchmen is that captain Cesc Fabregas is doubtful against Manchester United with a hamstring.

On any given day, Manchester United would be weak favorites to win at home against Arsenal. Although with Arsenal scoring at alarming rate, there is no doubt that the North London team will go to Old Trafford without fear and play football. In that case, it will be an exciting match where loads of attacking football and defense error will be on display. Check out the odds for a draw as Betsson is offering at 3.25.

Aston Villa vs Rapid Wien

In Football, UEFA Europa League on August 25, 2009 at 23:53

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Curtis Davis with the second goal at Anfield. Could he do it again on Thursday night?

Curtis Davis with the second goal at Anfield. Could he do it again on Thursday night?

From what Villa did to Liverpool at Anfield on MOnday could spark a new era for Villa as they successful register their first win of the season. In that in mind, they go into the UEFA Europa League playoff tie against Rapid Wien trailing 1-0 for the first leg. They will have to overturn this defict in order to get themselves into the hat on this coming saturday evening draw in Monaco. A goal might be enough to get them penalites after 90minutes but Villa will be looking for more.

Coach Martin O’Neill has seemingly improved the Villa’s defense as their outing against Liverpool proved a bit more stable. Their win at Anfield have given them a boost for the upcoming tie against Rapid. They will be searching for minimum a goal and that could well come for a set piece as they managed two set piece goals against Liverpool. They will push forward and attack would be their main priority on the night. With all the players full of confidence after the Liverpool game, it will be good to see O’Neill fielding a strong starting eleven compared to the one, he picked a week ago. They will be dangerous on the night and expect some explosive attacking football from James Milner and Ashley Young.

Rapid Wien have gone strength to strength ever since they met Aston Villa in the 1st leg. Last weekend, they managed to beat LASK at home with a compelling 4-1 score line. Steffen Hoffman was the man of the match as he scored a goal and was provided 2 assists for the 3 other goals. He will be the one to watch at Villa Park. The Austrians will travel to England without their new acquisition Milan Jovanovic as he is ruled out with an injury. Otherwise, Rapid Wien look on form and they are dangerous in the attack.

This tie will probably not go into extra time if Rapid Wien choose to play it cautious in Villa Park. The reason behind is that both teams are like to attack rather than defend and both defense like to concede a goal in their matches. So for the neutrals, this could be a joyous match to watch when football is all about attacking but it could be a nightmare for coaches and supporters watching on. Aston Villa have the home advantage and they are on the high. Villa to win with Betsson will get you odds 1.33.

Premier League: Liverpool vs Aston Villa

In Barclays Premiership League, Football on August 21, 2009 at 11:44

Glen Johnson opening his account for Liverpool against Stoke City.

Glen Johnson opening his account for Liverpool against Stoke City.

Monday night returns to the Premiership, not a phrase that is often heard relating to football in Europe. Liverpool have the luxury to host Aston Villa for the very first Monday night televised game in the Premier League. A host of international names will be present on the night, the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, John Carew, Petrov, Ashley Young and James Milner, and it will be an explosive match.

Coach Rafa Benitez has got his men back on track after crushing Stoke City 4-0 in the midweek at Anfield. After the disappointed season opener 2-1 defeat to Spurs, Liverpool have regained their confidence where the team looks more of a unit with free flowing football during their attacks. Captain Gerrard and Liverpool’s top scorer, Torres, are key members of the team and they have shown their worth in the win against Stoke. The pair will be eager to show more of their partnership against Villa, while new boy Glen Johnson will hope to continue scoring goals for Liverpool. Benitez will be without Danish defender ,Daniel Agger, as he injured his back and Martin Skrtel is doubtful too against Villa. The central defense had to call on youth player Daniel Ayala to partner up with Jamie Carragher against Stoke. Therefore under these circumstances, Benitez made a purchase of AEK Athens Sotirios Kyrgiakos for £2 million to avoid anymore central defense issues.

Villa could be dogged by their busy schedule after traveling to Vienna for their midweek playoff match in the UEFA Europa League. They returned to UK with a 1-0 defeat, conceding after 40 seconds of regular play. Martin O’Neill fielded goalkeeper, Brad Guzan, against Rapid Vienna but it is anticipated that former Liverpool player, Brad Friedal will return against Liverpool. Villa started out the season with two defeats in a space of a week and O’Neill is hoping that his luck will change in break the deadlock of the losing streaks. There is a possibility that he will call on another former Liverpool player, Emilie Heskey to lead the front lines.

Liverpool made a poor start against spurs but was very good against Stoke. They look very much of their old self in the second half of last season. Villa have made a poor start and it is their defense that has let them down. Liverpool will exploit this weakness and could start a long chain of victories. Have a look at Betsson as they are offering Liverpool at 1.46 for a win.

Serie A: Inter vs Bari

In Football, Serie A on August 20, 2009 at 17:17

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

JoseMourinhoInter-Milan

Who to win Serie A? Vote at the end of this Article.

The Italian season returns this weekend and the reigning Serie A champion, Inter, are looking to win their second consecutive Scudetto under Coach Jose Mourinho. The newly promoted club from Serie B, Bari, will be travelling to San Siro to play their first Serie A game since 2001 and they faced a tough encounter in their season opening game. Inter are favorites and looks strong to cash in the first 3 points of the season.

The league hasn’t even started and Jose Mourinho is already headlining the newspapers over the dispute of potential threats to his team. Besides headlining the newspaper, Mourinho has done several transfers over the summer. He has brought in Samuel Eto’o, Diego Milito, Lucio and Thiago Motta. The team has lost both forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano, so the goals will have to come from Eto this Sunday. The Nerazzurri will be without Esteban Cambiasso and he could be replaced by Patrick Vieira in the midfield.

Bari have been recently acquired by the rich Texan Businessman, Timothy L. Barton, but the huge transfer fund will only be available in the January window. Serie B champion will find life tough in Serie A, as the schedule for their first few games has not been kind to them.  Coach Giampiero Ventura has more problems to face as he might be without his top scorer, Paulo Vitor Barreto, against Inter. Matteo Paro, Mariano Martin Donda, Emanuel Rivas and Pedro Kamata are also injured while newly summer signing Riccardo Meggirorini is suspended. Expect some changes to the Bari lineup on Sunday.

This is a David vs. Goliath match where Goliath will most likely be triumph on the first day of Serie A. After the entire dispute in the newspaper, it won’t be surprising to see Mourinho demanding a win, in their first game, to save pride for himself. It will be a shocking result if Inter loses this match and Betsson is offering odds 1.25 for a home win.

Fulham vs. Chelsea

In Barclays Premiership League, Football on August 20, 2009 at 11:22

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

fulhamchelseadrogba

Craven Cottage is the first point of call for the first London local derby in the Premier League 2009/10 between Fulham and Chelsea. A short journey up the road for Chelsea will see them locking head with Fulham in search for 3 another Premiership points. Chelsea are favorites at the sold out Craven Cottage for the first south west London Derby.

Fulham have started out well in the Premier League registering their first win last weekend away at Portsmouth. Their participating in the UEFA Europa Leauge forced them to postpone their midweek Premiership match. The Cottagers continues their great form from last season as Coach Roy Hodgson has wiped them into shape during the preseason. They look solid on the field against Portsmouth and it is no surprise, as Roy Hodgson is a man about discipline, organization and determination. Forward Bobby Zamora will be looking forward to have Damien Duff and Jonathan Greening debuting for the Cottagers against Chelsea, while Simon Davies and defender Toni Kallio are still out with injuries.

Chelsea are title contenders for Premiership this year and they have started out with 2 wins in 2 matches. Coach Carlo Ancelotti saw his team work hard to beat 2-1 Hull City at Stamford Bridge last weekend. While in the midweek, his men came back from going behind to win at Sunderland 3-1 in their second Premiership game of the season. The Italian is happy with Drogba, Deco, Essien, Lampard and Ballack fitting into his diamond formation, as he will be without Yuri Zhirkov, Juliano Belletti and Alex against Fulham.  New acquired £1.5 million Nemanja Matic from MFK Kosice could start on the bench.

Ancelotti will have to see whether his team can muscle out against the physically strong Fulham side. Both teams are in great form and this will certainly be an explosive match for the neutrals to watch. Although, Chelsea have the depth in their squad and looks more clinical when it comes to goal, so check out  Betsson as they are offering 1.62 for Chelsea to win.

Burnley vs Manchester United

In Barclays Premiership League, Football on August 17, 2009 at 21:46

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.com

Burnley FC

This is the Primership season’s first midweek games and we will see Burnley host the reigning Champions, Manchester United at Turf Moor. The newly promoted team will play their first premiership home game of the season and certainly be at its full capacity on Wednesday night. Manchester United will not have to travel far to Burnley and playing in front of a rare capacity of just 22,000 people.

Already in the second round of the Premiership, this will be a testing times for the Clarets as it doesn’t get any harder than the Champions coming around to Turf Moor. This game will mark their first home top flight game for 33 years and many of their supporters will spur them on to get that long awaited victory.  Coach Owen Coyle will need to get his men ready after their last weekend 2-0 defeat against Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium. They were beaten by two first half set pieces and taught a harsh lesson in their Premier League debut. Coyle will have to work on the set pieces if they are to survive the Premiership and the Manchester United onslaught. It is most likely that he will recall the same starting eleven which played against Stoke.

Manchester United will travel to Turf Moor to face another promoted club from the Championship in a space of 4 days. Ferguson saw Rooney registering his 99th goal for Manchester United in the win against Birmingham and the win was never in doubt. Having defeated 1-0 against newly promoted Birmingham at Old Trafford in their first league game, Sir Alex Ferguson will want another victory to cement a good start to the season. The red devils might be without first choice centre backs Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand as they travel to Burnley. Although, this shouldn’t worry Ferguson too much as both Johnny Evans and John O’Shea proved their worth against Birmingham.

The Premier League schedule has been kind to Manchester United and they could take full advantage by winning at Turf Moor. Manchester United might have lost C. Ronaldo in the close season but newly acquired Antonio Valencia has physically given more presence in the midfield. Burnley might have to learn the hard way by losing a game to gain experience. Manchester United got give Burnley a lesson to be remembered and Betsson is offering odds 1.30 for Manchester United win.

Tottenham Hotspurs vs Liverpool FC

In Barclays Premiership League, Football on August 14, 2009 at 14:36

By Joe, www.Bettingexpert.comTottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will host Liverpool in the season opener at White Hart Lane. Both teams are prepared to battle out for honors in this Sunday’s televised game in London. Hopes have never been higher of winning the Premiership with the Reds from Merseyside while Spurs are looking to compete for a top 4 spot finish in the league. Both teams are set to do well this season and a victory to either team could see a promising season ahead of them.

Tottenham look likely to start fresh with Harry Redknapp in reign. Last season was a major disappointment as they finish mid tables only to have been at the foot of the table in the first half the season. They redeemed some pride in becoming the winner of the League Cup 2008/09. The result of last season has prompted Redknapp to be active in the transfer market this summer. He brought in former Liverpool player Peter Crouch, defender Sebastien Bassong from Newcastle and Kyle Naughton into the squad. It will be interesting to see who Redknapp will select for his starting partnership upfront as Keane, Defoe and Crouch are all fit to play. Jonathan Woodgate will not feature against Liverpool as he went through surgery on his groin.

Liverpool has gone 20 years without a league title and last season they came closer as they were only 4 points away from Manchester United. Liverpool are expected to mount a serious challenge for the Premiership title and Rafa Benitez has been very busy over the summer seeing major signing of England International defender Glen Johnson and Roma’s midfielder Alberto Aquilani. Liverpool had to say goodbye to both Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Aberaloa to Real Madrid. Liverpool might be without their captain, Steven Gerrard, as he pulled out of the England friendly against Holland and Jamie Carragher is also doubtful to travel to White Hart Lane.

Tottenham and Liverpool have in recent years played some exciting football at White Hart Lane. As this is their first official match, it usually ends up as a stalemate. However, Spurs have issues with the defense and Torres will take notice of this. So look at Betsson as they are offering 2.12 for a Liverpool win.
