Midweek football and this time it’s the quarterfinals for the Carling Cup. Arsenal will travel to Manchester City Wednesday evening in order to fight it out for a place in the semifinal. Both sides have recently distant themselves from the Premiership title and it looks likely they will have to find some silverware this season elsewhere.

Manchester City have drawn their sixth consecutive Premier League matches and that is damaging their quest to break into the Big 4.  Their recent Premiership 1-1 home draw against Hull City showed that some of their key players are not up to their best form. A bit of change to their starting lineup could be on Manager Mark Hughes future plan. He has Robinho, Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards fit again. Manchester City will advance to the semifinal of the Carling Cup after beating Arsenal’s youngsters 3-0 in the midweek. Stephan Ireland and Martin Petrov are rated doubtful against Chelsea.

The Blues are marching on after easily disposing their neighbors, Arsenal, last weekend, in the Emirates in a 3-0 emphatic win. They now travel to Manchester to face the blues of the city where both squads are full of star ridden players. The differences between the two clubs are seen by the results on the pitch. Chelsea have gone through a four match winning sequence and did not concede a single goal in the process. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will want the team to extend their lead on the top of the Premiership even without the service of Daniel Sturridge, Salmon Kalou, Alex and Jose Boswinga. Ashley Cole is expected to return to the lineup after limping off with a hamstring injury against his former club, Arsenal.

Chelsea crashed out of the Carling Cup after taking the match to extra time and penalties against Blackburn. They have gone 34 matches without losing in normal time and that’s some record that the Ancelotti will inherit. Manchester City fielded a strong team against Arsenal in the midweek and surely Hughes will recall his winning eleven. Stalemate looks likely the score but many will hope City will dent Chelsea winning run.
