Scotland is still searching a route to the World Cup tournament next year in South Africa. A draw against the Dutch will guarantee them the second place in the group nine but not enough to seal a play-off spot for to qualify to the World Cup 2010. A win is a must for the Scottish while Holland have already qualified as winner of group nine.
After the crucial 2-0 win against Macedonia in the weekend, Scotland have brought life back into their World Cup campaign. Coach George Burley might be on his way out but he will want to finish his managerial career on a high with Scotland. He has added both Gavin Rae and Graham Dorrans into the squad because James Fadden is suspended and Callum Davidson withdrew from the squad with injury. Goal keeper, Craig Gordon, Scott Brown and Steven Fletcher is ruled doubtful. On the positive front, defender Gary Caldwell will be available after serving his suspension against Macedonia.
Holland was one of the first teams in Europe to qualify for the World cup tournament and they did it style. They are currently undefeated in group nine with 7 wins in 7 matches. They played a friendly match last weekend and beat comfortably Japan with 3-0. Holland could be without Inter Milan’s star player, Wesley Snejder, as he was carried off with an ankle injury against Japan. The Dutch squad will definitely be without Ibrahim Afellay as he is nursing a calf injury.
Scotland are desperate to beat Holland to get into that playoff spot. They have been dogged with injuries and suspensions for the last two matches and could go against them as they face Holland. The Dutch could take an ease to this game as the outcome would not affect their status for the World Cup. However, would the Dutch want to lose their 100% winning recording during the qualifier? A draw would suit both team but Holland looks likely to go and win it in Hampden Park, check out Betsson as they are offering at 2.15 for Holland to win.
