Ronaldo

Cristano Ronaldo won't be able to help his country out but Portugal can still qualify without his help

Portugal have been one of the major football nation to emerge in the last tournament in the European Championship and the World Cup. This time they face elimination threat as they face Bosnia-Herzegovina in a playoff two legged tie.  Danmark and Sweden qualified ahead of Portugal in the group and the Portuguese are desperate to join the others in the prestige tournament next summer.

Portugal are in this situation simply because they could not overcome the absence of their best player Cristiano Ronaldo. He is included in the squad against Bosnia but a rift between his club Real Madrid and country have appeared to resulted that he will not be fit for the match. Portugal Coach Carlos Queiroz has picked his 23 man squad and expect Ricardo Costa, Deco, Tiago, Nani, Simao and Richardo Carvalho in the starting lineup. He is also boosted with Hugo Almeida and Miguel returning from fitness.

Bosnia-Herzegovina finished second in their group behind European Champions, Spain. Head Coach Miroslav Blažević will be plotting his master plan to evict Portugal in this vital playoff two legged tie. Two players that Bosnia will count on in taking them to the world cup are Zlatan Muslimovic, from Udinese, and Edin Dzeko, Wolfsburg. Both players are top scorer for their country and if they can get things going then the Portuguese might find it tough to handle them. Bosnia will do their best to qualify for the world cup for the first time in their history.

It will be a tragedy if Portugal does not make it to the World Cup but a strong bond Bosnia team are a good replacement for them. Portugal will do their best to wrap up the tie in Lissabon and if that happens, Bosnia will be facing a uphill struggle to qualify. Bosnia knows this is already a tough task so they would try to avoid getting trashed in Portugal, if possible.

The Danes celebrating the win 3-2 in Portugal which put them leaders of Group one.

The World Cup Qualifying Group One will see a titanic battle between Denmark and Portugal in Parken Stadium, Copenhagen. This game could decide whether Portugal will make it to the World Cup finals in South Africa next year. They are currently third in the group and needing a good result in Copenhagen.

The Danish team is leading group one with 16 points after 7 games played. They are undefeated in their World Cup campaign and could go on and qualify first in the group if they beat Portugal this Saturday. Coach Morten Olsen has given a late call up to Søren Rieks, Esbjerg fB, after Martin Bernburg, Brøndby IF, pulled out with a knee injury. Chris Sørensen has also pulled out of the squad while goal keeper Jesper Christiansen damaged his elbow which will be replaced by Kim Christensen. Goal keeper Thomas Sørensen is suspended against Portugal and Olsen will have to select carefully who his first choice goal keeper will be for the crucial match.

Portugal will be bringing all the big names to Copenhagen. Coach Llido Vale has brought in Boswinga, Carvalho, Nani, Deco, Ronaldo and Gomes for the crucial match against the Danes in Denmark. Portugal is currently third in group one with 9 points after 6 games. They are 4 points from Hungary who is currently second in the group. If they want to qualify for the world cup then they need to start winning soon or otherwise they will have a good vacation next summer. The Portugal national team could deploy Sporting Lissabon top scorer Liedson in the front after Hugo Almeida received an injury.

Denmark are undefeated in Parken Stadium and Portugal have got most of their points away from home. The Danes beat Portugal 3-2 back in September 2008 so this time around the Portuguese will have to go to Denmark in search for 3 points. The Danes will have to be cautious or otherwise it could be an embarrassing defeat.  A draw could be the ideal score line of the night and Betsson is offering 3.20 for a draw.

kaka ronaldo

As many domestic leagues are preparing for the new season, many European clubs are heavily investing in new players to strengthen their squad. Record signing has been broken once again and Real Madrid have been dominating the headlines.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid – £80 million

World most expensive player, Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to play for Real Madrid for the next 6 years. He leaves Manchester United after playing 292 games for them, winning 1 Champions League title, three Premiership title, one FA cup, two League Cups and one Fifa Club World Cup. He was bought by Alex Ferguson for only £12.25 million as a replacement for David Beckham. Now he seems to be following the footsteps of David Beckham and overshadowing him with the heavily price tag. It is believed that Ronaldo has a £90 million buyout clause. Ronaldo will be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium later in July.

Kaka to Real Madrid – £56 million

2nd world most expensive player, Brazilian Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite or better known as Kaka, left AC Milan for Real Madrid at the price of £56 million. Before Ronaldo’s transfer, Kaka’s transfer broke the existing world record transfer at £48million for Zinedine Zidane, the price Real Madrid paid for him. A bid from Manchester City earlier this year at £100 million was offered but Kaka rejected the move to England. Kaka signed a 6 year contract with Real Madrid and the team look like returning back to the been the Galacticos team once again. Kaka will be presented at 20:30 CET on 30 June at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Glen Johnson to Liverpool F.C – £17.5m

Liverpool signed England’s right back Glen Johnson from Portsmouth after fighting off bids from Chelsea and Manchester City. This is Rafa Benitz’s first signing of the season looks to be strengthen his team to mount an assault on trophies in the new season. Johnsen will be happy to join a team with the likes of Captain Gerrard and Torres in the squad. The signing of Glen Johnson could see a few players leave Liverpool this summer.

Santa Cruz £16.5m and Gareth Barry – £12m (Manchester City)

Mark Hughes has been given money to spend and he has not dissapointed Manchester City fans so far in spending them. They have signed Gareth Barry for £12 million from Aston Villa, earlier on the month, and recently signed Santa Cruz from Blackburn for £16.5m. Manchester City seems to have every superstar on their wish list but they just don’t seem to have that appeal as Madrid or Milan. They certainly don’t look like stopping at this point.

Teams that will be spending and selling:

Watch out for these teams, as they will be headlining many front pages of the newspaper next month. Real Madrid has already been spending alot money recently so it could be time for them to sell. Barcelona won’t be watching their rivals stealing all the headlines, they will have to come up with something soon. AC Milan and Manchester United will begin to find the right players to replace the superstar they lost. Both teams have a lot of money to spend and there might be some big names coming their way. Chelsea has been awfully quiet but like Manchester City, they will always be part of the transfer rumors.

Now that Ronaldo and Kaka has found their new homes. Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o and Valencia’s David Villa will probably hit the headlines in July.
