The second edition of the battle of Scandinavia will be played out in Norway on Wednesday when Norwegian reigning champions, Stabæk hosts the Danish champions, FCK. There is a lot on the stake as this match will decide who will advance through to the next round of the group stages. FCK is leading 3-1 from the first leg, the winner will advance while the loser will end up playing in the UEFA Europa League as consolation prize.
Stabæk played well in Copenhagen despite the 3-1 defeat incurred on them. They had a few chances to get more than that one away goal they scored last Wednesday in Parken. They advanced into the 3rd round of the Champions League by beating KF Tirana with a 5-1 on aggregate. There should be another high caliber performance in order to get through to the next round. The Norwegian outfits will have to win by 2 goals and keep a clean sheet. Former FCK player, Frederik Berglund will be looking forward to play against FCK again as he missed a sitter last time.
F.C. København will go to Norway and defend the lead at all cost against Stabæk . In the first leg, FCK were fortunate that they did not concede more than a goal against Stabæk . They had a great first 30 minutes spell in the 1st leg but then the defending started to lapse. Last weekend, FCK drew 1-1 at home to newly promoted Silkeborg IF in the SAS liga. Coach Stale Solsbakken withdrew Jesper Gronkjaer and Antonsson from the squad, while William Kvist and star player, Cesar Satin a rare start from the bench. He saw his go behind already in the fourth minute goal by former FCK player, Jesper Bech. FCK equalized in the 2nd half with a penalty goal by Morten Nordstand which the substitute Satin played the major part of winning the penalty. FCK will need to be at their toes in Norway to advance to the next round.
F.C. København are firmly favorites to advance through to the next round. Solsbakken could be willing his team to beat his countrymen as the success of FCK’s season hangs on to whether he gets them in the group stages on not. There is little expectation over Stabæk to advance through to the next round of the Champion League but they can redeem their confidence with a victory over the current strongest team in the Nordic. Solsbakken looks likely to be the only Norwegian going through to the Champions League group stages and mybet is offering odds 2.60.
