The curtain opener for the Danish SAS liga will see FC Nordsjælland face the reigning Danish champions, F.C. København. The first game of the season has a surprising kickoff time at 15:00 on a Saturday afternoon, this is because FCK is participating in the Champions League and they will have to travel to Montenegro for the 2nd leg match next Wednesday. The defending champion will want to start off well in the league.
FC Nordsjælland have not done much in the transfer market this summer. Midfielder Kenni Sommer returns to the club after a brief loan from neighbors, AB. FCN made one important and exciting signing this week. New boy Rawez Lawan signed a 4 year contract with FCN after his 3 year stint at AC Horsens. Lawan could be leading the attack with former FCK player, Martin Benburg this coming Saturday. Another former FCK player, Andreas Laudrup will be also looking forward to meet his former club. Coach Morten WIeghorst will be without Issey Nakajima-Farran and Patrice Bernier, as they are both on international duties with Canada. Wieghorst will have the availability of American Michael Parkhurst as he returned from the Gold Cup. Prior to the season opener, Wieghorst had his men played 3 friendly matches. They lost 3-1 to AGF, beat Koge 1-0 and defeated 3-1 against IFK Goteborg. All FCN goals in the friendlies came from both players, Bajram Fetai and Stephan Petersen.
FCK started their season last Wednesday with a 6-0 victory at home in the Champions League 2nd round, 1st leg against the Montenegro’s champion, FK Mogren. The reigning Danish champion might have to change the midfielders due to the absent of Atiba Hutchinson on international duty and Libor Sionko. Coach Stale Solsbakken saw his men play some delightful football last Wednesday and he will hope that his team will continue the good form. He also has one of the best striking forces in the country and he will keep everybody speculating which pair, he will start with on Saturday. Former FCN player, Morten Nordstrand would hope for that rare start and Peter Larsson could debut for FCK if he overcomes his illness.
An explosive tie to get the SAS liga season started. Last season, they played each other 3 times and FCK won all of the encounters. FCN has only managed to beat FCK once and that came in April, 2007 at Farum Park. First game of the season is always a tough one for some teams but since FCK has already gone past the first game rubber feet then it would be safe to go with Betsson for a FCK victory at odds 1.55.
