We start our Champion League 2009/2010 campaign with F.C. København. The Danish Champions will host Montenegro’s champion, FK Mogren at the stadium Parken for the 1st leg of the 2nd round of the Champions league. F.C. København have not been in any competitive matches so far as their Danish league season has not started yet. FK Mogren have recently been in action as they qualified for the 2nd round Champions League by beating Maltase champion Hibernians with a 6-0 aggregate.
The game in Parken will be the first competitive game for the Danish champions. Their run up to the game against FK Mogren saw FCK played three training games in July. They went to Austria for training and played against Sturm Graz and Rapid Wien. They managed to beat Sturm Graz on penalties after 3-3 during normal play. However, Rapid Wien managed with 10 men to beat FCK in their last match in Austria. FCK played their last training match against Vejle BK and won confidently 3-0. Coach Stale Solsbakken has been able to keep the same squad from last year. He has changed his captain from Ulrik Laursen to Hjalte Norregaard. This might be due to the fact that Ulrik Laursen might not get a lot of games this season. FCK will be without Atiba Hutchinson, Libor Sionko and Peter Larsson.
FK Mogren are new to the European scene. They will be playing their fifth European game in their debut in the Champions League. Their victory over the Maltase champion Hibernians was also their first victory in Europe. Their key players are Peter Grbic and Srdjan Radonjic. Peter Grbic scored 3 out of the 6 goals against Hibernians while Srdjan Radonjic played 18 games for Viborg Boldklub in Denmark. They are an organized team that can surprise a few in the maiden run for the Champions League.
F.C. København are favorites to win the 1st leg against FK Mogren. FCK managed to reach the last 32 in the UEFA cup last year virtually with the current squad. They will certainly aim for this year to make the group stages of the Champions League. FK Mogren will do their best to get something in Copenhagen and hopefully find themselves in a good position for the return leg next week in Montenegro. Check outmybet as they are offering 1.20 for a FCK win.
