After 2 weeks of tennis at SW19, the Wimbledon finals will see a William’s family affair for the 4th time between the Venus and Serena. Both players powered their win into the final after disposing their Russian semifinalists on Thursday at Center Court. For Venus, this is her eighth final appearances at Wimbledon while younger sister Serena will appear in her fifth Wimbledon final. Serena is the reigning Wimbledon champion so she is definitely the one to beat.
Wimbledon is Venus Williams’s favorite tournament and she demonstrates this once again by reaching her eighth final in the last 10 years. A win against Serena would put her up there rubbing shoulders with tennis greats, like Steffi Graf and Martina Navratilova. Venus is the favorite to land her third consecutive Wimbledon trophy which would also be her 6th Wimbledon title too. Venus is by far the most in form player at the tournament. She destroyed World number 1, Dinara Safina in the semifinal with 6-1 and 6-0 in just 51 minutes of play. Venus is playing her best tennis, her movements are time to perfect and her strokes are deadly. Venus is more than ready to take Center Court on Saturday.
Serena Williams has also an impressive record at Wimbledon. Serena beat Venus in the Final of 2002 Wimbledon in which she captured her first Wimbledon title. She went on and won the 2003 Wimbledon edition. Now facing Venus once again, she can capture her third Wimbledon title and revenge for her defeat in the 2008 Wimbledon final. Serena’s semifinal victory over Elena Dementieva went down as one of the longest women’s match in Wimbledon’s history. They battled for two hours and 48 minutes where Serena claimed victory after she saved a match point before coming through with a 6-7 (4-7), 7-5 and 8-6. She will be a worthy challenger to Venus’s throne.
Dominating the women’s Wimbledon tournament, the Williams will once again embrace the Center Court again. Last year, Venus beat Serena and this year will mark their 4th edition between the sister rivalries. It won’t be hard to call this one as Venus is the player to beat and Serena knows that. Have a go on Venus as Ladbrokes is offering odds at 1.66 for her sixth Rosewater Dish Wimbledon title.
