Second stage of the group phase in group B sees Brazil take on USA at the city of Tshwane/Pretoria. The stadium Loftus Versfeld hosted already the match between USA and Italy with lots of football fans coming out in force. Hopefully, the game between Brazil and USA will see a sold out stadium, creating a great atmosphere for the players, fans and millions watching the TV. Brazil won their opening match against Iraq with a thriller 4-3 win while USA lost to Italy 3-1. Brazil are favorites to win this match.
Brazil needs to be weary of their defense duties. They are known for their offensive strength and they did not disappoint against Iraq. The most expensive player in the World, Kaka started the goal feast and ended the affair by converting a penalty for the game winner in the dying minutes of the game. Brazil had a few lapsing moments in their defending, this might be the case of their right and left backs playing too offensive and exposing the central defenders one too many times. Coach Del Bosque will have to sort that out as their lack of concentration cause them a late scare in their opening match. The team knows anymore poor defending will definitely be punished severely against more established opponents.
USA impressed the world for the first half of the game against Italy. However, they managed to also get the second red card of the tournament when Ricardo Clark recklessly hacked down Italian G. Gattuso. More controversial followed with as Jozy Altidore won a penalty for the Americans, Landon Donovan converted the penalty for the 1st half lead. Playing with 10 men, team USA was not able to hold on to the lead and lost the game with a 3-1 defeat. Now a similar task is in front of them as they play Brazil and they will need to keep all 11 men on the field if they are to avoid being knocked out of the tournament. Clark could be replaced by either Beasley or Califf for the game against Brazil.
Group B ended with lots of goals and many debating points in Day 1. Brazil could qualify for the semifinals if they are to beat USA. If a defeat occurs to USA, then this would be the end of the road for them in this year editions of the Fifa Confederation Cup. Brazil would want to top group B, as second place means they could face the informed Spanish team. Brazil could win big here and Ladbrokes is offering Brazil at odds 1.25 to win.
