Coming to the end of the Italian season, Milan’s longest serving defender and captain Paolo Maldini will be wrapping up his remarkable career at Fiorentina for their final match. The last automatic Champions League spot is up for grabs and Milan needs a win to secure that 2nd position in the Serie A. Fiorentina can mathematically get that 2nd spot too but they need to beat Milan with at least minimum of 3 goals and hope that Juventus avoids victory over Lazio. The league title has been secured by Inter and now it is up to the rest to fight for what there is left in the Serie A.
Milan travels to Fiorentina for their final game of the season. Their preparation has been marred by the incident last weekend in the San Siro when a section of the Milan fans protested in Maldini’s final game. There has been much debate over the week that even the officials of the AC Milan board came out with a declaration explaining Milan’s position regarding the whole farce. Last weekend’s 3-2 defeat to Roma had also dented the atmosphere in Milan but that should not be a problem for this weekend’s game. There will be a big presence of star players available on the day for Manager Ancelotti’s first 11 selections. Players like Seedorf, Kaka, Inzaghi, Beckham and Pirlo are ready to battle for the 2nd place in the league. This could also be Ancelotti’s last game in charge of Milan. Strong hints have been placed that he will be leaving Milan after this match.
Fiorentina has been looking forward to this contest and it will be a memorable one as they have done well this season. The Viola fans will be happy to see their team competing in Champion League next season but might have to go through the qualifying rounds before actually competing in the group stages. The last game of the season will see Melo and Dainelli sitting out as they will serve a one match suspension. Mutu, Santana and Bonazzoli are also injured and probably will not feature on Sunday. It will be most likely Prandelli will be the first pick to lead the attacking offensive on the day. Fiorentina will be looking for a victory here to end on a high note.
Both teams have qualified for the Champions League next season but it is the automatic qualification to the group stages that is on the stake. A few players in the Milan squad will be playing their last game for the team and they will want to make an impression. Fiorentina will not settle with a defeat in their last match so it looks likely to be a draw and mybet is offering 3.10 for a draw.
