Relegation is looming on Newcastle and this Sunday is the last straw. Newcastle will be travelling to Birmingham to face Aston Villa for the crunch game of the season. The only way for Newcastle to survive relegation is to win and hoping for Hull City to slip up against Manchester United. The other factor is that if Sunderland also loses and Newcastle wins against Villa, another life line is also given to them. Not everything is all gloom yet for Newcastle but they will have to win their game and let the rest unfold.
Newcastle Manager Alan Shearer could see his beloved club go down to the Championship if he can not guide them to victory at Villa Park. Although he is the cult hero of the club, there is little that he can do for the fans if they are to go down. The club could go into more financial trouble and high profile players will have to be sold off. Aside from Newcastle struggling, they are aslo finding it hard to get their current players fit too. Michael Owen has problems with his persistent groin injury, Obafemi Martins is also dogged by the same problem and right back Habib Beye will not play against Villa as he is hit with a hamstring. Two players that could feature in the survival battle are Alan Smith and Jose Enrique as both returns through injuries.
Villa will finish in the top 5 for the first time since 1996/97 season. This is a remarkable achievement as the Premier League is dominated by the Big 4. At one point of the season, Villa was threatening Arsenal for the fourth place. Villa tried to break the monopoly and they have proven they have the talent but not the consistency to do it. Next season, Martin O’Neil will strengthen his squad in order to challenge for the Champions League spot. Ashley Young and Luke Young are rated doubtful for this match. This is the last game Martin Laursen as he will address the Villa crowd of his earlier retirement due to ongoing injuries.
It will be an exciting finish to the season but sadly it will involve Newcastle, Hull and Sunderland on Sunday. Newcastle is in the worst position but there is still a chance. First Villa is standing in their way but if Newcastle can overcome them, they will need a favor from the other teams. Villa is looking for their 17th win at home this season and looking for John Carew to continue his scoring. Newcastle could do the double on Villa and would not that be an ideal scenario for all betting tipsters, mybet is offering 2.65 for an away win.
