Last game of the season for Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge and Blackburn are their final visitor of the 2008/09 year. Chelsea fans will also bid farewell to Manager Guus Hiddink as he have lead Chelsea in a good run in the latter stages of the season. Many Chelsea fans will want him to stay and start Chelsea’s championship challenge next season but this will be up to the Chelsea board to work their magic. Guus Hiddink can still win a trophy for Chelsea this season as they have secure a place in the final for the FA Cup at the end of the month. Chelsea will be happy to make all their players fit for the important tie against Everton.

Chelsea will not have Salomon Kalou available against Blackburn as he hurt his ankle in a friendly close door match against Manchester City. He will most likely be replaced by Mikel or Malouda in the midfield if Hiddink chooses to play a 4-4-2 formation. Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti, Deco and Ricardo Carvalho are all doubtful and probably won’t feature against Blackburn. Chelsea has not lost to Blackburn in seven league and cup meetings and won six of those games. They have gone 10 home league games undefeated and Chelsea is guaranteed a third place this season.

Blackburn are currently in 14th place and with 40 points, is relatively safe from the drop zone. Things can still happen which would make Blackburn one of the candidates going down to the Championship. The likely hood of this is slim so we will have to see what kind of tactics Big Sam will deploy at Stamford Bridge. Blackburn lost the corresponding tie to Chelsea with 2-0 back in November. That day, Chelsea were the better team and outplayed Blackburn in many occasions. This might be a repeat as Blackburn is still without their strikers. Roque Santa Cruz and Jason Roberts are injured and still out. Defender Andre Ooijer is available after recovering from a hamstring. Good news is that Blackburn will probably stay in the Premiership.

Rovers secure their top flight status last weekend by beating Portsmouth. Chelsea has only the FA cup left to win. There is not much on the stake for this game and last year, this game ended goalless. A free flowing game might be witnessed on this Sunday late afternoon’s televised match. Blackburn will not be in full strength so expect an onslaught from Chelsea if they are in the mood to win, Ladbrokes is offering a home win at 1.28.
