Chelsea vs. Barcelona

By Joe,

The last and only tie that is left that does not have British Isles team playing. FC Barcelona is the only team to represent Spain (even if they don’t think they are) and the rest of Europe against the powerful English League. Chelsea is a good example of one of the English teams dominating the European scene since the turn of the century. Even if Barcelona is to get to the Final, there is no getting away from an English team, they will either meet Manchester United or Arsenal in the Final in Rome.

Chelsea played well last week at the Nou Camp and they were able to hold Barcelona’s attacking wave after wave. The stunning score of 6-2 to Barcelona does spell a bit of fear in what the Chelsea squad should expect on Wednesday night. Josep Guardiola’s side is unbeaten on their UEFA Champions League travels this season and has scored 14 goals in five games. With the likes of Messi, Henry, Eto, Iniesta and Piqet all available on the night, this lineup does put fear to any team in Europe and that is something the neutral spectator will enjoy. Martín Cácere and Gabriel Milito will not travel with the Barcelona squad to London.

There is no doubt in Chelsea’s mind that the advantage is with them playing at home in the 2nd leg of the tie. In the last 3 semi-finals, Chelsea was eliminated twice and last year they advanced to the Champions League Final. Only one out of the three semifinals was played at Stamford Bridge and one of it made the appearance in the Champions League Final. Chelsea did well at Nou Camp taking a 0-0 draw to Stamford Bridge. Ashley Cole will return to the lineup and will give some more attacking option on the night for Chelsea. Guus Hiddink will decide whether to go with a cautious 4-5-1 formation or a 4-4-2 formation. As long as Chelsea does not concede an away goal then they are the favorite to book a date in Rome.

Chelsea is ready to host Barcelona at Stamford Bridge. Barcelona hopes history does not repeat itself after losing to an English team 1-0 against Manchester United in 2007/08 campaign. Who will bet on it that it will be a goalless game at Stamford Bridge? With the performance that Barcelona gave in the weekend, it will surely not be a 0-0 game and it could be the Catalan colors in Rome on the 27th of May, mybet is offering 1.70 for Barcelona to go through to the Final.
